"Two Eggs, Fold in Gently."

For Christmas we gave Kailey a cookbook. Not just any cookbook but a Disney Princess Cookbook. She has been wanting and waiting to make something out of it ever since. Finally I gave in and let her make something. The reason I haven't let her make something until now was because we didn't really have any of the ingredients to make the recipes she wanted to try.

Yesterday she got out her book and started to read me ingredients to recipes she wanted to make. As she would go through the list I would say yes or no to the ingredient needed. When she came to one that had a no in it she would move on to another recipe until we found THE ONE.

"Chip's Bite-Size Cookies"

She was happy to finally find one she could make. Of course she wanted to do it all by herself and I let her. (for the most part)

After a little help, they didn't turn out too bad. She loved them ( and so did Charis!) and that's all that matters. It was fun to watch her learn how to read a recipe and to measure ingredients.

I couldn't help but think of poor Fauna as she was baking for the first time too. :)

 I know this isn't the end of the cooking lessons and one day she wont need my help. But for now we will take it one recipe at a time.

mmmm!

so during this last priesthood session, i went with the lovely Leonhardt women to the ladies night at Deseret Book. i went last time and had a ton of fun. so anyways, like last time Ila had to twist my arm in to getting something. this time i choose this lovely cookbook. i have to say I LOVE IT! thanks for forcing me Ila!

so the first thing i decided to make were these delicious looking orange rolls!

YUM!

{ yes i did blur the recipe....rude? maybe. tee hee.}

so i got to making these orange rolls

first the flour mixture

second the delicious filling with orange zest

combine the two and you get...

super super delicious roll!

apples, apples, apples!

okay OKAY okay!
it's been awhile since i have last blogged....
{ at least it's not decorated for Christmas anymore...}

anyways, lets move on.

so recently i had acquired a large box of granny smith apples from dear sweet Aunt Julie.
{sorry i didnt take a picture of the box... take my word, it was big!}
 so here i was my large box and i, not knowing what i wanted to do with all the apples, just knowing that it was a great deal and that i needed to buy them.

as we all know, its EASTER. and we usually have easter dinner at my grandpas. this year he asked me to bring a dessert. ok i can do that. dessert is easy. { especially if you have a huge box of apples! }

so off i set! PIE!
first, of course, i made the dough... { sorry no picture here either...} then i set out to core and peel the apples. thanks to my wonderful mother in law i was able to borrow her apple peeler/corer and accomplished this task with ease.
{ maybe someday in the future i will acquire one of my own.}

okay so step one was finished. cored and peeled apples CHECK!

next, a quick chop down the middle and in to the bowl they go!

roll out the dough, place in pie pan. CHECK!

add some delicious seasoning to the apples...

MMMMMM! delish! then into the pie they go. a quick little lattice pattern and into the oven!

TA-DAH!

now what to do with all that extra dough???

make a small pie! DUH!

so after baking for about an hour, they are done! smell delicious, and cant wait to be eaten.

well, that barely made a dent in my HUGE box of apples...
what else to do with them?

IDEA! my brilliant sister in law Tamzon made applesauce with hers, and so kindly sent out an email explaining exactly how she did hers. so following her lead i pulled out

BIG BERTHA!

i love my huge bowl. i havent really had much of an excuse to use it, UNTIL NOW!
so super excited i peeled and cored more apples, chopped them in half and threw them into the bowl.

See?

then after i had about 4 dozen apples all ready, i plopped them in to a pan, added the water and sugar and waited. that's  how easy it is!

so after waiting about 40 mins my applesauce was ready! so i quickly put it into jars and now we have some for when ever our little hearts desire. :)

{thanks for the idea Tamzon!}

yum!
