Family Vacation - { Part 2 }

so after vegas we headed out to Dayton NV. its a long drive with not much to look at except desert. we did however find this lake.  

and there were a few old abandoned towns { sorry no picutes } but they were really neat. finally we get there!

after being given the tour of the house we went to Carson City for some dinner. who doesnt like Denny's? Grandma and the girls spent some time coloring while we waited for our food.

after dinner we took a quick drive through an historic town called Virgina City. We would have liked to get pictures of some of the old buildings but it was too dark. { sorry :(  } the town was really neat. Boyd and i want to go back when we have more time and see the town in the day time. It made me think of Tombstone, if you want a comparison.  Then back to Grandpa and Grandma Spurlocks. We enjoyed their fire pit.

after getting the girls washed up and in bed my grandpa was showing me some old newspaper articles that had members of his family in them. This one had his Great Grandparents and his Great Uncle in it. 

The article says, " Paul Spurlock { that's my grandpas dad} of Jonesville, submitted this photo of his grandfather Jimmy Hall {right} and grandmother Polly Hall {middle} and his uncle Crockett Hall {left}. the pictures were taken many years apart but put together and enlarged in 1923. Jimmy Hall was a soldier in the Civil War with the picture taken of him in his uniform in 1864. He later married and had six children, the youngest being Paul's mother, who was seven years old when Jimmy was murdered by mistake, according to Paul,  who said that Jimmy was walking out of the Harlan County Courthouse door in 1890 when a man shot him in the back thinking that Jimmy had killed the mans father. Paul said that no trial was held due to the lack of law in Harlan County at the time."

My grandpa informs me it was a situation similar to that of the Hatfield's and the McCoy's. Family rivalries gone bad. 

this is a picture of my grandmother's grandparents and her mother. she tells me that her grandmother is where the Cherokee Indian comes from. she { her grandmother } is 1/2 Cherokee.

the next morning before breakfast we took a quick picture and headed back into Carson City. 

the BEST steak and eggs I've ever had. it was so YUM!

the girls had to keep thier pictures, but instead of hauling around things we dont really need we took pictures to remember them by. 

just wanted to say thank you to my grandparents for letting us come and stay for the night. we will have to plan a longer trip next time!
